When Maddie was a baby, her brother didn’t really like her. When we brought her home from the hospital, the first thing he said was “UGH MAMA” and lead me and baby Maddie out of the room by my hand. (which was, incidentally, the only time he called me Mama before age 4…)
When she started crying, he would get mad or upset and hit her, scratch her, push her, pinch her – anything to get her to stop (but he actually would make it worse). We learned early on that when Maddie was crying, we should have the other parent distract Logan and get him far from her as we could so as to not have two upset babies at the same time.
I would tell him, that when Maddie got older, she would be tougher and that he should be nicer to her…
Mommy was RIGHT.
Maddie has a little devilish streak when it comes to bugging her brother. She hides his toys, and gives him unexpected noogies when all he wants to be is alone. He’s learned not to lash out at her as he would do before, because Maddie will smack him or push him right back.
These make me giggle. Even if they are blurry.
